10 Best Hospitals with 24-Hour Emergency Departments in Bangkok

Ten Bangkok hospitals compared on their published emergency departments, contact numbers, ambulance services and around the clock availability.

Bangkok, ThailandReviewed 10 providers

When something goes wrong in Bangkok at two in the morning, the deciding factors are distance, traffic and whether an emergency department is actually staffed around the clock. Thailand's national medical emergency number is 1669, which dispatches ambulance services anywhere in the country; the hospitals below additionally publish their own emergency contact lines and, in most cases, explicit 24-hour service statements. This comparison is built only from those official emergency pages and fact sheets: what each hospital says about its emergency department, how to reach it and where it sits, so that you can decide in advance rather than during a crisis.

What we checked before listing these emergency departments

We included Bangkok hospitals whose own websites publish an emergency department page, an ambulance service or a fact sheet statement about emergency care, and we copied contact numbers exactly as published. Clinics without emergency facilities were excluded, as were providers whose claims we could not trace to an official page. Two public teaching hospitals appear because of their weight in the referral system, flagged honestly where an official English emergency page could not be verified this session.

The emergency departments, hospital by hospital

1Bangkok Hospital (Headquarters)

Bangkok Hospital (Headquarters)

Bangkok Hospital's Soonvijai headquarters runs BDMS Emergency Services, described on its emergency services page as ready to provide patient care 24 hours a day, reachable on 1724 or +66 2226 4565, with the hospital call center at 1719. Because the campus also houses dedicated heart and cancer hospitals, an emergency that turns out to be cardiac can stay on site for definitive treatment. Sensible for anyone living around Phetchburi, Thonglor or Rama 9; store both numbers, since the ambulance service and the general call center use different lines.

2Bumrungrad International Hospital

Bumrungrad International Hospital

Bumrungrad International Hospital publishes a clear emergency setup on its Emergency Center page: a 24-hour emergency center on Sukhumvit Soi 3, a direct line at +66 2011 5222 answered around the clock every day, and a Thailand-only emergency line at 1378. The center operates inside a hospital with a full surgical and intensive care program behind it, which matters when an emergency turns into an admission. A practical pick for the lower Sukhumvit area; if you carry insurance, ask beforehand how the emergency intake handles guarantee of payment at night.

3Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital

Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital

Samitivej Sukhumvit Hospital frames its emergency care through the Samitivej Trauma Center, which states emergency service for all medical needs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, located in Building 3 on the first floor, with the campus reached at +66 2022 2222, press 1. Its published interpreter roster spans seven languages, which helps when the person in trouble speaks neither Thai nor English. Well placed for Phrom Phong and the Soi 49 residential pocket; when calling ahead, say explicitly that you need the Sukhumvit campus, as the group operates several Bangkok hospitals.

4MedPark Hospital

MedPark Hospital

MedPark Hospital gives its emergency department unusually specific public contact detail on the department's page: open 24 hours with critical care coverage, a direct ED line at 02-090-3119 and an ambulance number at +66 2 090 3000, both separate from the main switchboard. Behind the department stands a tertiary hospital with over 40 specialty centers at its Rama IV Road address, ready for onward admission. A good match for Khlong Toei, Sathorn and the riverside; save the direct ED number rather than the main line, and ask on a calm day how ambulance dispatch covers your address.

5Phyathai 2 Hospital

Phyathai 2 Hospital

Phyathai 2 Hospital publishes an Emergency Medicine and Ambulance Center on its center page, with a direct phone at 02-617-2444 and the Phyathai group hotline at 1772. One honest caveat: the English center page does not spell out 24-hour wording, so treat round the clock availability as unconfirmed until you ask the hospital directly. The 550-bed hospital on Phaholyothin Road does, however, describe 24-hour pediatric coverage at its child health center. If you live near Sanam Pao or Ari, call first and ask plainly whether the emergency room receives adult patients at all hours.

6Praram 9 Hospital

Praram 9 Hospital

Praram 9 Hospital keeps its emergency information short and usable on the emergency center page: open daily, 24 hours, with the four digit hotline 1270. The emergency room belongs to a JCI accredited hospital whose Kidney Disease and Transplant Institute carries its own program accreditation, worth knowing if the patient is on dialysis or has a transplant history. Convenient to Huai Khwang and the Rama 9 business district; because the published hotline is a short code, check once in advance that your phone plan can dial Thai four digit numbers.

7Vejthani Hospital

Vejthani Hospital

Vejthani Hospital does not publish a standalone English emergency department page, but its official fact sheet lists 24-hour emergency care with an ambulance and mobile critical care fleet, alongside a hotline at +66 85 223 8888. For residents of Lat Phrao, Bang Kapi and Ramkhamhaeng it is one of the few large accredited hospitals on that side of the city, which shortens the ride that matters most in an emergency. Save the mobile hotline now rather than searching under stress, and ask on your first call how the ambulance fleet reaches your particular soi.

8BNH Hospital

BNH Hospital

BNH Hospital states plainly on its emergency department page that emergency services are available 24 hours, with the department reached at 02-632-1000 and the main hospital line at +66 2 022 0700. The hospital occupies a compact campus on Convent Road, which for Silom and Sathorn office workers can mean a much shorter trip than crossing town to a larger campus. It is a smaller institution than the multi hospital complexes on this list; if your history includes complex cardiac or neurological disease, ask how transfers are arranged when a case exceeds what the site can handle.

9King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital

King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital

King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital anchors public tertiary care for central Bangkok as a Thai Red Cross hospital on Rama IV Road, described on the Red Cross Society's page with a switchboard at +66 2256 4000. Its own website was unreachable during our checks, so emergency department hours and intake details are not verified here; that reflects a gap in accessible English information, not a judgment on the hospital. For an ambulance emergency anywhere in the city, dial 1669 and let the dispatcher choose the receiving hospital; use the switchboard for non urgent questions only.

10Ramathibodi Hospital

Ramathibodi Hospital

Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University's public academic medical center on Rama VI Road, is a major hospital in Bangkok's public system, with a switchboard at +66 2201 1000 listed on the faculty's directions page. No official English page describing its emergency department could be found this session, so treat triage arrangements and visitor rules as unpublished rather than absent. If you are weighing it in advance, a Thai speaking relative or colleague calling the switchboard is the most reliable way to learn current intake arrangements; in a life threatening event, 1669 dispatch decides the destination.

How to plan for a medical emergency in Bangkok

Choosing among Bangkok's emergency departments is not a decision you want to make for the first time while you are already in crisis. The hospitals covered above vary in size, location, and the range of specialists they keep on call, so it is worth taking a few quiet minutes now, rather than later, to understand what each one near you can actually handle. A hospital's own website or a phone call to its patient services line is the most reliable way to confirm what level of trauma and critical care capability it maintains on-site.

Beyond the hospital itself, it is worth asking a few practical questions before you need the answers. Find out whether the hospital operates its own ambulance service or relies on a third party, and ask what response times you might realistically expect from your neighborhood or hotel. If you or a family member does not speak Thai, confirm directly that English-speaking doctors and nurses are reliably present in the emergency department, particularly during night shifts.

Finally, do the work of preparation while things are calm. Save the names, addresses, and phone numbers of the two or three nearest options to wherever you live, work, or are staying, and keep that shortlist somewhere you can find it instantly.

If your travels take you outside Bangkok, or you simply want to see how these options sit alongside emergency departments in other parts of the country, our nationwide listing of emergency-care hospitals covers hospitals with emergency departments across Thailand.
