7 Best Hospitals with 24-Hour Emergency Departments in Chiang Mai

Seven Chiang Mai hospitals compared on published emergency hours, the direct lines each one prints and where the department sits.

Chiang Mai, ThailandReviewed 7 providers

Chiang Mai's hospitals sit almost entirely inside Mueang district, which sounds convenient until a road accident happens out past the ring road at midnight and nobody in the group knows which gate to head for. Ambulance dispatch across Thailand runs on the public number 1669, which works province wide; separately, most hospitals here print a line straight into their own emergency department. This comparison reads those official pages and nothing else: what each hospital states about staffing at every hour, which numbers it publishes, and where the department physically sits.

The evidence behind these seven entries

Scope was Mueang Chiang Mai and the districts immediately around it. A hospital qualified only if its own site publishes an emergency department page, or a contact page naming the emergency line, and every number below is reproduced exactly as the hospital prints it. Outpatient clinics that send urgent cases elsewhere were left out. Where a page stops short of confirming staffing at all hours, the entry says so instead of filling the gap.

Seven emergency departments, and what each one publishes

1Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai

Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai

Bangkok Hospital Chiang Mai documents a 24 hour emergency and trauma center on its own department page, giving +66 (0)52 089 888 as the emergency line; 1719 is an internal extension rather than a number to dial from outside. The 122 bed hospital states JCI accreditation and staffs an International Medical Services department whose interpreters and medical coordinators change how a night arrival goes for a patient with no Thai. If you carry insurance, put a question to that department in advance about what documents an emergency admission requires, because policies differ widely.

2Chiang Mai Ram Hospital

Chiang Mai Ram Hospital

Chiangmai Ram Hospital lists a 24 hour emergency department and the number 052-004601 on its contact page, a short ride from the old city on Boonruangrit Road. The hospital dates from 1993, set up together with Ramkhamhaeng Hospital in Bangkok, and its newsroom records a fifth JCI re-accreditation cycle announced in November 2024. An International Patient Services Center appears in the site navigation, though no interpreter roster is published anywhere. Test that emergency number in English on an ordinary afternoon, so you already know how the call goes.

3McCormick Hospital

McCormick Hospital

McCormick Hospital, run on Kaeo Nawarat Road under the Church of Christ in Thailand Foundation, publishes an Emergency and Trauma Department open at every hour, with a resuscitation team it names DOCTOR CORT and an ambulance held for off site transfers. The department page gives 053-921-799 as a direct line, plus 053-921777 extensions 1338 and 1339, and like the rest of the site it is written in Thai. Sensible for households on the east bank of the Ping river; arrange your Thai language help before you need it, not during the drive.

4Rajavej Chiang Mai Hospital

Rajavej Chiang Mai Hospital

Rajavej Chiang Mai Hospital on Chiang Mai-Lamphun Road states a 24 hour emergency department on its emergency page, with 052-011999 extensions 132 and 133 and a mobile number, 085-695-5843, which is useful when a switchboard is busy. Open since 1997 and accredited at Level 3 under the Thai HA scheme, it publishes English department pages throughout. Its insurance and foreign programme pages carried no content when we looked, so settle by telephone whether your policy is handled directly here rather than discovering the answer at the counter.

5Chiangmai Hospital

Chiangmai Hospital

Chiangmai Hospital in Chang Phueak describes a 24 hour hotline and emergency department providing first aid to accident victims and critically ill patients on its service page. This is a smaller private general hospital, certified under HA Thailand Second Stage for 2010 to 2021 according to its homepage, and several of its specialist clinics run only a few hours each week. That pattern suits stabilization close to the northern edge of town. Worth asking, on a calm day, what the hospital does with a patient whose problem needs a specialty it does not run daily.

6Chiangmai Klaimor Hospital

Chiangmai Klaimor Hospital

Chiangmai Klaimor Hospital keeps an Accident and Emergency Center open around the clock and, unusually in this group, gives it a line of its own, 0-5320-3191, kept apart from the general hotlines shown on the center's page. Standing in Pa Daet on the Chiang Mai-Hot Road, it covers the southern approaches, where every other hospital here means a longer drive. AACI ISO 7101 and ISO 9001 marks appear on the homepage. Nothing on the site promises interpreters, so save the dedicated number and expect the conversation to run in Thai.

7Chiang Mai Neurological Hospital

Chiang Mai Neurological Hospital

Chiang Mai Neurological Hospital is a Ministry of Public Health specialist hospital for neurological conditions, and its English contact page gives 053-920200, extensions 222 and 306, as the emergency room route. That page does not say whether the room is staffed at every hour, and the clinic directory was blocked to us throughout, so it belongs here with a caveat rather than as a general emergency option. Its real relevance is stroke and other neurological care inside the public system. For an undifferentiated emergency, let the 1669 dispatcher pick the receiving hospital.

How to prepare for an emergency in Chiang Mai

Choosing a hospital for a possible emergency should never come down to brand recognition or a glossy lobby. Before you settle on any name from this list, take the time to ask directly what level of trauma and critical care capability that hospital actually keeps on-site around the clock. Emergency department signage does not tell you whether a facility can manage a serious head injury, a cardiac event, or major surgery at 3am versus simply stabilizing you before a transfer elsewhere.

It is also worth asking each hospital directly about its ambulance service, including how it is dispatched and what kind of response times you might realistically expect in the part of Chiang Mai where you live or are staying. If you or someone in your household has a language barrier, confirm ahead of time whether English-speaking staff are reliably available in the emergency department itself.

None of this is useful if it only lives in your head. Take a few minutes now, while nothing is wrong, to write down the names, addresses, and phone numbers of the two or three nearest options and keep that list somewhere you can find it instantly.

If you are the kind of traveler or resident who moves around Thailand rather than staying only in Chiang Mai, it is worth glancing at a nationwide listing of hospitals with emergency departments as well, simply so you have a reference point for other regions before you actually need one.
