Specialist travel-medicine service

Thai Travel Clinic is part of the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University. It provides pre-travel counselling, vaccination and certification, malaria-prevention advice, rabies post-exposure treatment, assessment of travellers’ diarrhoea, and diagnosis and treatment of tropical diseases. The clinic is suitable for people preparing for travel as well as those who become unwell during or after a trip.

Access for expatriates

The clinic explicitly confirms that expatriates and people who are not currently travelling may use its services. Visitors should carry identification such as a passport or Thai ID and are encouraged to bring vaccination records and relevant medical documents. This is particularly useful when a clinician needs to check earlier vaccine doses, ongoing treatment or possible exposure dates. Vaccination is provided after counselling rather than as an automatic retail service.

Appointments and registration

Most services permit walk-ins, with an exception noted for some parasitic-disease services, but advance booking is strongly recommended. Patients with appointments are prioritised, and afternoon walk-ins may not be accommodated when the clinic is full. New patients first register with the medical-record unit on the hospital’s ground floor before going to the clinic. The online appointment system provides an immediate confirmation email after a slot is selected.

Hours, contact and transport

Regular hours are Monday to Friday from 08:00 to 16:00, with the last walk-in at 15:00. Extended weekday hours run from 16:00 to 19:00, last walk-in 18:00, and Saturday hours are 09:00 to 16:00, last walk-in 15:00. The clinic closes on Sundays and public holidays and pauses service between 12:00 and 13:00. It is on the third floor of the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, 420/6 Ratchawithi Road, about a 750-metre walk from Victory Monument BTS Exit 3. Making the visit worthwhile

A travel-medicine consultation is most useful when the clinician can see the full itinerary rather than only the destination country. Visitors can prepare dates, provinces, rural or urban stops, planned activities, accommodation type and any work or volunteer exposure. Vaccination records help avoid unnecessary repeat doses and show whether a series is incomplete. A list of medication, allergies, pregnancy status where relevant and chronic conditions also affects which prevention options may be suitable. The clinic publishes a vaccine price list, but the final recommendation follows counselling and should not be inferred from price alone.

The same service is relevant after travel. Fever, persistent diarrhoea, rash or a possible animal exposure may require a different pathway from a routine pre-travel appointment. Rabies exposure is treated as urgent: wound cleaning and prompt medical assessment should not wait for a convenient future slot. The clinic’s relationship with the Hospital for Tropical Diseases means hospital outpatient or inpatient care may be available for some tropical illnesses. That does not make the travel clinic an emergency department.
